This weekend's events
Just a reminder for everyone. This weekend is the first time we have 2 teams at "home". The 2nds have a game (friendly) v Old Parkonians kick off 2pm.
The 1sts play Rhyl in a league game ko 2:30pm.

Please come and support both teams, on the Pant and in the Sun afterwards.

This Sunday (25th Nov), we have a sponsored walk from the Sun, over Rhos mountain and into Llangollen. This year proceeds collected will be shared between the North East Wales Deaf Children's Society and Rhos Rugby Club. The walk starts from the Sun at 9:30am (remember clocks go back an hour) and we'll probably arrive at Llangollen around 12:30ish. We will have some lunch and a few drinks in Llan before heading back to Rhos. If you wish to bring spare clothes to wear after the walk, then please bring them in a bag and leave them in the Sun. We'll arrange for someone to bring them down by car. It's £10 per person, but if you wish to raise the equivalent by sponsorship that's fine - form attached. Please wear suitable clothing, and everyone welcome.

Next Saturday Rhos play Newtown away in the SWALEC cup, then at night we have a Halloween party in the Sun - fancy dress.

Full League Fixtures 2009-10
Our Division has been split into 2 sections - Northern and Southern. We play the Northern Section (6 teams) then after home and away fixtures, the top 3 in our division play the top 3 in the Southern section, and the bottom 3 play the bottom 3 of the Southern Section. Due to this, we don't know who we're playing in January. E.g N1 v S3 would be top side in Northern playing 3rd in Southern.

Training
The pitch is being cut today, so Pre-Season Training will start tomorrow (Wednesday 8th July).

6:30 p.m. at The Pant. If anyone has got a pump and valve, bring it with you as I think the balls will be flat. Looking at playing some touch etc. to begin with.

Thanks

Snake

Rhosllanerchrugog v Machynlleth (N. W. Intermediate Cup final) Match Report
Following on from the semi-final win over local rivals Wrexham, Rhos Rugby travelled to Welshpool on Wednesday 15th April to take on Machynlleth in the final of the Inaugural North Wales Intermediate Cup. Cheered on by an approximate 150 vocal travelling supporters Rhos started brightly, and stamped their authority on the game from the whistle. They battered the Machynlleth line and an easy kickable penalty in front of goal was unfortunately missed by Stand Off Kelvin Bryan. Five minutes later after Rhos put pressure on the Mach defence in their 22, they were forced to kick. Full back Chris Williams caught the ball, then put up a testing kick which Mach did not deal with. A good chase by Williams then forced Mach to try to clear from behind their tryline, mobile lock Dafydd Buffey was there to charge down the kick, and the ever present John Ireland was there to touchdown in the left corner for the first try. The conversion was missed by Simon Hughes.

Further attacks, and great running from John Ireland and Simon Hughes, kept Mach in their own half. Rhos were trying to take advantage of the slight breeze in their favour. After winning a lineout just outside the Mach 22, Simon Hughes scored Rhos' second try. He broke after he cleared up a loose ball from a lineout, then forced his way past three tackles to score in the right corner. Rhos kept up the pressure and were awarded a number of penalties, Hughes missing 3 kickable chances although a couple were difficult efforts and were just short of their target. Mach looked dangerous when they had the ball in hand, and after one exciting passage of play were awarded a penalty within Rhos' 22. They decided to kick for goal and pulled back 3 points. Half time and Rhos were leading 10-3, a bit disappointed that they could not have scored more points.

The second half started much the same, with Rhos applying early pressure but failing to take their chances, Machynlleth gradually clawed their way back into the game and started asserting pressure of their own. They kept Rhos pinned back in their own half, with good backs moves and kicking for the corners, taking advantage of the wind. Rhos were stubborn in defence, great tackling by centres Rich Jones, Rory Howard and wingers Gareth Ireland and Robert Parry kept Mach from scoring. Rhos' pack continued to fight tooth and nail for every scrap of possesion. Scrums were solid from the front row of Mark Edwards, Rob Jones and John Jones, whilst winning their own lineouts, young lock Dafydd Buffey and John Ireland were also stealing lineouts from Mach. Rhos defended for most of the second half, despite the odd attack into the Mach half, especially from John Ireland again. Good work was provided by the back row of South Walian Carwyn Minard and local boy Dewi Richards. Desperate defence saw Rhos give away a lot of penalties near to the final whistle, and with both players and supporters tense, Rhos came away with victory as the second half ended scoreless, and Rhos were the victors 10-3.

John Ireland was named the official 'man of the match' but this title could have gone to any one of the Rhos players on display. Rhos were ecstatic at winning their first cup for 20 years. The squad of 22 collected their medals, and Captain Simon Hughes lifted the cup to a rousing song of 40 German Bombers by the squad.

Things are really looking up for Rhos Rugby Club with the immergence of young and new players, and the decision to resurrect the second team which is run by Simon Allman and Sam Dodd. All welcome at the 'Sun Inn' home of Clwb Rygbi Rhos.

On a sad note, the club wish to express their sadness, at the passing of one of their sincerest members Vernon Richards. Vernon had been due to travel to the final, but unfortunately had been admitted into hospital. All the members of Clwb Rygbi Rhos would like to dedicate the cup to Vernon who will be sadly missed by all.
